Securing a pallet involves more than just strapping. Properly stack boxes in an interlocking pattern, keeping the load within the pallet's edges. The best methods combine multiple techniques. Start with a stable, interlocking stacking pattern. Apply at least two straps in each direction (four total) for basic loads. For added security, especially for irregular or unstable items, use stretch wrap in addition to strapping. For heavy or sharp-edged loads, steel strapping and corner protectors are often the superior choice for maximum security.

Properly strapping a pallet means ensuring even tension and correct placement. Straps should be run through the pallet openings, not just around the product. Use a tensioner for consistent tightness on all straps. Straps should be tight enough to prevent shifting but not so tight that they damage the packaging or product. Always check the strap's working load limit to ensure it's sufficient for the cargo weight.

The correct way is to ensure the strap's working load limit exceeds the weight of the cargo being secured. Drape the strap over the load, thread it correctly through the tensioning mechanism (like a ratchet or buckle), and tighten until the load cannot shift. Always protect straps from sharp edges with corner guards to prevent fraying and failure during transit.

Polypropylene (PP) is an economical choice for light to medium-duty bundling and palletizing. Polyester (PET) offers higher strength and retains tension better, making it a good alternative to steel for heavier loads. Steel strapping provides the maximum strength and rigidity, ideal for securing very heavy, sharp-edged, or non-compressible loads like construction materials.

To choose the right strength, you must know your load's weight and characteristics. Check the strap's 'working load limit' (WLL), which should be at least 50% of the total weight of the cargo you are securing. For shifting or unstable loads, you may need a higher WLL. Always consider the transport conditions—rough transit requires stronger, more durable strapping materials like polyester or steel.
