Pallet Covers & Bags

The plastic wrap used for pallets is most commonly called stretch film or stretch wrap. It is wound around the entire pallet load to secure and stabilize it. Pallet covers and bags are a complementary product, placed over the top and sides of the load for additional protection against dust, moisture, and contamination.

To measure a pallet cover, first determine the length and width of your pallet base — standard US pallets are typically 48" x 40". Then measure the height of the stacked load. Add a few extra inches to the height measurement for overlap and tuck. Use these three dimensions — length, width, and height — to select the appropriately sized cover.

To wrap the top of a pallet, place a pallet cover or bag over the entire top of the load, ensuring it drapes evenly down the sides. Secure it with stretch film wound around the perimeter of the load. For extra protection against moisture or dust, tuck the cover edges beneath the bottom layer of stretch wrap for a snug, sealed fit.

Pallet covers are most commonly made from polyethylene (PE) plastic, which provides excellent moisture resistance, durability, and flexibility. Some covers are also available in woven polypropylene for heavier-duty applications, or in anti-static variants for electronics. The choice of material depends on the level of protection required and the storage or transport environment.

A common approach is to apply the pallet cover first, then secure the entire load with stretch film to hold the cover in place and add load stability. Strapping can be used for additional securing of heavy or irregularly shaped loads.
